Somebody has said that the freelancer is someone who is paid by per-hour, per-job or per-haps.<\/em> If you\u2019re a card-carrying freelancer, you know there\u2019s more than a little truth to that statement.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve been a freelance web developer since 1995 and, although the freelance life has its challenges, I wouldn\u2019t trade it for the world. That\u2019s why I\u2019m thrilled to be leading a Freelance Workshop<\/a> at this year\u2019s WordCamp Birmingham – and it\u2019s a double session!<\/p>\n

When it comes to web design, the only thing I love more than WordPress is teaching people how to find the freedom of freelancing with WordPress. The workshop will be a very informal, very interactive, guided discussion of how to do just that.<\/p>\n

During our time Saturday morning, I\u2019ll be pulling elements from two of my more popular talks at WebDesign.com<\/a>: \u201c10 Things I Wish I\u2019d Known About Freelancing,\u201d and \u201cThe Freelance Ninja\u2019s Guide to Clients.\u201d I\u2019ll be sharing plenty of bone-headed mistakes I\u2019ve made over the years and what I\u2019ve learned so that I (hopefully) don\u2019t make them again. And in the middle of it all, we\u2019ll walk together through a simulated project — from sales, through development to launch and after.<\/p>\n

So if you\u2019re a freelancer, consider this my personal invitation to you to come be a part of the discussion. If you\u2019re a seasoned freelancer, come add your two cents. If you\u2019re a total newbie, come learn from the mistakes of others who are a little further up the road than you. And if you\u2019re somewhere in the middle, perfect. You\u2019ll fit right in.<\/p>\n
