Birmingham WordCamp has a killer speaker roster this year, and we are proud to host their presentations. Here is a quick teaser, featuring some of our favorite Friday noontime talks.

“From Blog to Book”

By Kathryn Lang

“Have fun. Make friends. Be relentlessly helpful. It doesn’t have to be any more complicated than that.”

Kathryn Lang shares words of hope, inspiration, and encouragement with a twist of snark to keep things interesting. Her blogs, radio programs, and articles reveal her belief in possibility and the power of a good laugh.

Her talk, “From Blog to Book,” teaches bloggers how to turn focused blog content into a book manuscript. After you have your manuscript ready, Kathryn will go through the steps to query agents and publishers or independently publish your book.

By the end of the session, attendees will have a finished book, ready to publish.

“Use WordPress to Build Your Brand and Share Your Voice ”

By William Jackson

“Share your voice with the world, from Central America to Africa.”

William Jackson graduated from South Carolina State University with a Bachelor’s in Education; after his Bachelor’s, he earned his MA in Teaching from Webster University with a focus in Educational Technology, Social Media, and STEM.

William’s career involves teaching at NASA, the Florida Department of Education, and Edward Waters College, where he was a professor. He has worked in education for over 30 years, teaching elementary to college students about diversity in education and business.

William is also a national and international blogger; he has published in the United States, Canada, and Africa. He loves sharing his WordCamp adventures with peers and Jacksonville community members; he strives to empower youth, teens, and young adults via “teachable moments” that apply classroom curriculum to real-world problems.

In his presentation, “Use WordPress to Build Your Brand and Share Your Voice,” William explores how building and growing your brand can affect social issues. There is a growing need for diverse content creators – the world needs them to share their experiences and encourage others to speak, write, teach, and spread love. WordPress inspires global creativity, innovation, digital voice amplification, and collaboration; it’s an important tool that should be used to spread worldwide diversity, to encourage acceptance and tolerance.

Attendees will learn how to improve the human experience by applying WordPress to community building, acceptance, and inclusion. They will discover how a demonstration of individual and group voices can build and strengthen a brand, both personally and professionally.
