WordCamp Birmingham offers sessions and workshops for website owners, entrepreneurs, and bloggers. But what about businesses?

The internet has opened up a LITERAL world of possibilities for companies to grow their reach. The key is getting decision makers (i.e. your boss) to understand the value of sending you.

So how do you justify your company sending you to WordCamp Birmingham 2019?

Tell them about it.

At $50, it shouldn’t take much convincing. If you have other travel expenses to consider, here is a sample email that you can send to your manager, extolling the benefits of attendance. (Be sure to highlight the topics that are most important to your boss!)

RE: [Improvement of WordPress skills]

Dear [supervisor],

I understand our company needs to control its training costs, and I know that it is looking for ways to get the most for the money it spends in every area. That is why I would like to attend Birmingham WordCamp this year. It is a cost-effective, professional education conference that features several WordPress seminars and workshops that can bring value to our business.

The conference covers three tracks: Content, Business, and Development, and many of the topics are relevant outside WordPress, like SEO, Google Analytics, accessibility, and A/B user testing. Their Happiness Bar is available all weekend and consists of experienced developers who provide free WordPress technical assistance.

I would like to attend WordCamp Birmingham, August 10-11, 2019.

Early Bird tickets only $45, and that covers registration, both days’ lunches, and ample networking opportunities. Local hotel room rates are only $129/night, minus tax, and transportation costs would be minimal, with an option to either rent a car or Uber. Here’s a link to the tickets page.

The seminars will provide us with essential knowledge about creating new content, growing income streams, increasing our virtual presence, and integrating new technology.

Normally, an industry conference like this would cost hundreds of dollars. Fortunately, the WordPress community has tremendous support from volunteers, industry partners, and local businesses who have provided enough sponsorship to make this event affordable. Let’s touch base again as soon as possible, as tickets are limited this year. I can’t wait to share what I learn!

It doesn’t hurt to ask your boss to send you to WordCamp– because if you don’t ask, you may never get a chance to attend. Remember to emphasize the benefits of WordCamp, and highlight how you can bring those benefits back to the office.
