WordCamp Birmingham is proud of all our presentations this year, but these talks are going to be incredible; you won’t want to miss them. Here’s a taste of what’s in store.

“Why the Pad is Bad – A Practical Guide to Estimating WordPress Projects”

By Beth Livingston

Beth built her first WordPress website in 2009 for a side business, was immediately smitten, and soon began building websites for others. In 2016, after a long history as an IT business analyst, instructional designer, and project manager, Beth left the corporate world to become a full-time WordPress coach and designer; she now enjoys providing real-life project management skills training for WordPress practitioners (designers, developers, consultants, project managers, and agencies) through her company, WP Roadmaps and Coaching.

Beth also runs the WordPress Project Management Facebook group and serves as an organizer for the Triad WordPress Meetup , where she has hosted several “happiness bar”-type events for those needing help. Beth has spoken at various WordCamps across the country and has taught several project management classes. She is also the author of The Complete Project Management Roadmap for WordPress, due this summer.

In her talk, Beth will explain how padding your freelance quotes can ruin your long-term business.

Padding is the lazy person’s approach to covering potential on-the-job surprises. Using an overestimate to cover potential problems and scope changes can do your client a major disservice. There is an alternative that works and guarantees you always come in under budget.

Attendees will learn actionable steps for creating a change control procedure that works; they will have access to a downloadable example.
