This year’s WordCamp is shaping up to be our best yet. Need proof? Check out these killer development workshops, which include talks from some of the leading minds in WordPress development.

“WordPress Development in a Modern PHP World”

By Drew Jaynes

Drew has been a PHP developer for more than 15 years. He’s been heavily involved in the WordPress community since 2011, contributing to the core, documentation, and meta teams, writing plugins, and helping with support. He’s been a core developer since 2013 and served as the WordPress documentation lead until 2016. He’s contributed to every major WordPress release since v3.3.

Drew works remotely from Arvada, Colorado for Sandhills Development, the parent company for cool plugins like AffiliateWP, Easy Digital Downloads, Restrict Content Pro, and more.

With WordPress finally bumping its minimum supported PHP version comes an opportunity for developers throughout the ecosystem to skill-up – to learn about and leverage the more modern features PHP has to offer. This talk explores those concepts and arms developers of all levels with the tools they need to succeed in a modern PHP world.

Attendees will take away actionable advice for how to update their legacy code and embrace modern standards in anything new they might be working on.

“WP Query For Beginners”

By Marco Berrocal

Marco is a self-taught WordPress developer, passionate about moving the web forward. He has been developing WP for almost 10 years.

He’s also an avid coffee and wine efficianado.

WP Query is one of the most important tools that the WordPress Codex has to offer. In his presentation, “WP Query for Beginners,” Marco will briefly discuss what it is, why WordPress developers should use it, and, most importantly, how to use it.

Marco will challenge attendees to think about their next project in terms of ‘how can I use WP Query.’

“Becoming a More Productive Developer”

By Micah Wood

A professional WordPress developer for over a decade, Micah has worked on sites for Fortune 100 companies, released over a dozen WordPress plugins, and spoken at several WordCamps; he is also  WordCamp Atlanta organizer, co-host on the WP Square One podcast, and WordPress development blogger. Currently, Micah works at Bluehost and spends most of his time contributing to WordPress.

Micah’s talk is about developer productivity. Developers so much energy building tools to make other’s lives easier, they often overlook ways in which to improve their own. In his presentation, Micah challenges participants to experiment with their productivity. It is easy to think that doing things a certain way is the best way – until we test alternatives. There is no one-size-fits-all solution.

Micah hopes that, by challenging attendees’ fundamentals, he can help them become better developers.
